The complex operation of the Metro is controlled and supervised from an Operations Control Centre (OCC) located at the Metro headquarters in a type of bunker protected from any incident such as floods, sabotage, accidents, etc.
Furthermore, all trains and stations are equipped with intercoms that communicate with the OCC by radio signal.
Below is a list of the systems featured by the Bilbao Metro Operations Centre:
This system is supported by traffic software that issues circulation orders and controls that they are observed.
This system controls and organises power supply, distinguishing between two types: power supplied for the trains and power supplied for installations.
This system controls communications. Two large communication areas have
been established: internal communication, between the people responsible
for operating the Metro, and communications with clients.
Communication is two way: communication from the control centre to employees
and users and vice versa. Communication systems used are:
All Metro installations are automatic and centralised: station lighting,
accesses, escalators, lifts, pumps, ventilation systems and fire detection
systems.
It is important to explain that all installations have three control levels:
at local level, at the installation itself; at
station level and, finally, at Operations Control Centre
level.
Both the sale of tickets and access control to stations is performed automatically.
